Stellar Evolution Part 1: The Formation of New Stars

The beautiful night sky is filled with thousands of stars that we can see and millions of which we cannot see, with about 4800 stars being born every second. These stars have a life cycle of about 40,000 years to about 10 billion years. However, all these billions of stars in the Universe are at a different point in their life cycle. In this topic, we will be discussing about how these stars are formed and how do they die.

The Big Bang & the Universe

Big Bang Theory doesn’t give us the whole explanation of the Origin of the Universe. It explained that the Universe started with a Big Bang or you say singularity about 13.82 billion years ago. Though we fully don’t know how it happened, we are able understand it through mathematical equations and models.

Dark Energy & the Expanding Universe

Dark Energy is an unknown and hypothetical form of energy that affects the Universe by producing a negative gravity or anti-gravity i.e. it acts against gravity. This is being theorized from the observable properties of distant supernovae, which show that the universe is expanding at an accelerating speed.

Dark Matter: The Invisible Force

The matter we see around us like planets, stars, etc. makes up only 5% of the Universe, while dark matter makes up 27% of the Universe and the remaining by another mysterious substance called Dark Energy. The only things related to dark matter is that it’s invisible, exerts a gravitational pull that helps bind together galaxies and distorts the appearance of space.
